Dean Dampney lives with his family on the South Coast of New South Wales, Australia.

Dampney intends on continuing to document the world he’s immersed in. He’s become renowned for his documentary photographic work on the upside of being a kid living in the coastal regions of Australia. Dampney’s friends and family give us a deeply personal and sensitive insight into his world beyond the urban sprawl.  In stark contrast to the familiar image of children in doors using interactive screen, an all prevailing message throughout Dampney’s work is the raw beauty and joy found in kids playing outside in the natural environment.

Iconic images of the surfers he shares these quiet stretches of coast have also come to prominence in Dampney’s work. Dampney as a Surfer and Ocean Lover advocates the joy of being under and above the oceans surface, in play, and in community with others.

Dampney has received many accolades as a Documentary Photographer. In 2014 Dampney was a Selected Finalist in the National Photographic Portrait Prize. In 2011 Dampney was highly commended for his selected entry in Australia’s richest Photographic Prize, the Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize. Dampney has been twice selected for the Moran Photographic Prize, the first time in it’s innaugural year 2007, and has been short listed as a Semi Finalist multiple times. In 2010 Dampney was a selected finalist for Reportage, Australia’s leading showcase of international documentary photography. Dampney was a shortlisted finalist for The Head On Photographic Portrait Prize in 2009. In 2003 Dampney’s work was highly commended for the Commonwealth Photographic Awards.
